Phyllis Pippin

CHESTERTOWN, MD. - M. Phyllis Pippin died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Pippin was born in Massey Md. the daughter of the late Noland Haley and Pearl Newnam Haley. And also predeceased by her step father who raised her, James Alexander Jr. Mrs. Pippin worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. postal service and retired in 1983. For many years Mrs. Pippin was very involved with her children, from Girl scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed following and assisting her children when they marched in the Galena High school Marching Band. Mrs. Pippin also enjoyed helping with the Millington Lions Club Suppers and the annual Carnival held every summer for many years. Mrs. Pippin was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church and currently attended the Asbury United Methodist Church in Millington. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pippin is predeceased by a son, Robert H. Pippin; a sister, Madeline Cook; and a brother, James Alexander. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, James T. Pippin; son, J. Thomas Pippin Jr. and his wife Darlene of Chestertown, Md.; a daughter, Margaret E. "Peggy" Lavassuer of Millington, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Bobbi Pippin of Chestertown, Md.; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam funeral Home 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. Friends and family may also call Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Clements Cemetery, Massey, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Kent & Queen Anne's Rescue Squad P.O. Box 126, Chestertown, MD. 21620 or the Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Millington, Md. 21651.
