The Lewes Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Delaware kicked off Saturday with a “Run to the Plunge” race and a sandcastle sculpture demonstration in Rehoboth Beach. Thirty-degree weather brought out over 300 5K runners and walkers  - some bundled up, some not. The “Sand Bears” a group of friends who worked together to create a large polar bear sand sculpture on the Beach, also braved the very cold and windy conditions. The Plunge takes place on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the beach in Rehoboth.
