DOVER - Philip 'Booper' Kosek died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at Kent General Hospital. Phil was born October 27, 1953 in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Helen and Philip Kosek. Phil graduated from Chester High School in 1971 and the Williamson Trade School with an Associates in Specialized Technology degree as an Electric Power Technician in 1975. He worked for 25 years for the City of Dover Power Plant and then the last 12 years in power plant operations for the City of Dover with NAES Corporation. Phil loved the sport of baseball and was captain of the Chester West Little League 16-18 year old Babe Ruth baseball team that went to the National Championships from Delaware County in 1971. He served as a pitcher for his college team and later played in several softball leagues. He coached and was the equipment manager for 10 years with Dover Little League and was the Assistant Coach for many years on the Dover High School Varsity Baseball Team. He was a supporter of the Dover High School wrestling team. He was a proud father to Andy and was an avid supporter of anything his son was involved in. Phil enjoyed watching his grandson Philip play baseball. He loved to bowl and traveled up and down the East Coast competing. Phil also enjoyed bass fishing in his boat, especially with his wife Marsha. He loved to play cards with his friends and listening to the Temptations, and was an avid fan of the Phillies, Redskins, Flyers and Tiger Woods. Phil loved to be surrounded by family, especially in the summer by the pool. He was a father figure to many. He will be missed by Bella, the family dog and his couch buddy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Kosek; and his sister, Phyllis Barnard, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marsha Johnson Kosek of Dover; son, Andy Kosek and his wife Leslie of Elkton, Md.; beloved niece Amanda Johnson (also his Goddaughter) and her daughter, Destiny Hettinger; nephew Shawn Ridgeway whom he helped raise; brothers, David Kosek and his wife Jill of Lambertsville, N.J. and Mark Kosek of Chester, Pa.; grandson Philip J. Kosek; and godchildren Becky Hurd, Lauren Durham, Mathew Robinson, and Michael and Kelsey Garnett; numerous nieces; nephews; brother and sister in laws; and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will be in the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cheswold. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Dover Little League PO Box 1764, Dover, DE 19903 or Dover High School Baseball Boosters (send checks to DHS Baseball Boosters, 40 Carnoustie Rd., Fox Hall, Dover, DE 19904). Letters of condolence may be sent and the guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
