Percy Lee Sample, 61
CAMBRIDGE - Percy Lee Sample, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in his home. He was 61. Percy was born Aug. 19, 1947 in Federalsburg, the son of the late Ernest and Maggie Mapp Sample. He was a graduate of Mace's Lane Class of 1965. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He had worked for the former Zaffree's Bakery for 10 years, and had also been employed by Acme Markets as a cashier and porter for over 17 years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Sample Jr. and Leon Sample. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Virginia Briggs Sample, whom he married on July 28, 1972; four children, Patricia Thompson of Millsboro, Del., Andre Batson of Hurlock, James Copeland of Chicago, Ill., and Charlotte Bell of Cambridge; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jerome Sample of Cordova, and Kenneth Sample of Cambridge. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg, with Pastor Bernadette Valez officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Beulah. Friends may call the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
