DOVER — Delaware’s COVID-19 percent-positive rate is above 5% for the first time since Feb. 23.
The seven-day rolling average for percentage of positive tests increased to 5.2%, according to the Delaware Division of Public Health’s update on Wednesday. This is higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended mark of 5%.
The most recent percent-positive data reflects statistics as of Sunday at 6 p.m. due to a two-day lag to account for the time delay between the date of the test and the date the DPH receives the test result.
Delaware’s seven-day rolling average of new positive COVID-19 cases increased to 289.6 cases per day in Wednesday’s report, reflecting data as of Tuesday at 6 p.m. The last time the average was that high was Feb. 27 when it was at 294 cases per day.
While the numbers are increasing, Delaware is still nowhere near the surge it experienced over the winter. The state’s percent-positive average was as high as 10.4% in the first week of January and the new daily case average set an all-time high of 833.3 new cases per day on Jan 9.
The DPH reported 243 new positives in Wednesday’s update, bringing the state’s total to 94,802.
COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased by one compared to the day prior, down to 133. Of those currently hospitalized, 16 cases are considered critical.
It is the 16th day in a row the number of individuals hospitalized with the virus has been over 100.
No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Wednesday as the total remained at 1,559. An additional 649 individuals tested negative for the virus, bringing the total to 566,034.
Delaware has administered 459,535 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Tuesday at 11:59 p.m., according to the state’s immunization information system DelVAX.
A total of 163,159 individuals are fully vaccinated, including 151,783 total persons who received both doses of a two-dose vaccine series and 11,376 who had a one-dose series. An additional 144,647 individuals have gotten their first dose of a two-dose series and are awaiting their second.
