SEAFORD — A 46-year-old North Carolina man died Tuesday when struck by a tractor trailer truck while walking on U.S. 13, authorities said.
The man walked into the northbound right lane for undetermined reasons and was struck by the tractor trailer at approximately 4:10 p.m., according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier. Police said the tractor trailer driver unsuccessfully attempted to swerve to avoid the pedestrian.
The incident occurred just south of Brickyard Road.
The pedestrian, who was identified as Edward A. Hamorski with a last known address of Jacksonville, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor trailer driver was uninjured in the collision.
U.S. 13 northbound in the area of the crash was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
