PAWS for People WAG & Walkathon steps off Sept. 15

NEWARK — PAWS for People, the Newark-based pet therapy nonprofit, will host its annual, month-long cumulative WAG & Walkathon, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

This year’s event will include a Facebook Live Step Off, a month of mile-tracking and fun challenges, and conclude with an in-person Cross the Finish Line Celebration at Glasgow Park in Newark on Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cumulative marathon concept allows individuals to log their 26.2 miles any time at their own pace, throughout the month. Participants can run or walk individually, with a pet, or with friends.

This year’s theme, “WAG Your Tail on the Trail,” encourages everyone to explore local parks and trails. In addition to awards for the most funds raised and most miles logged, the Cross the Finish Line event will feature vendors, food trucks and pet contests including the Animal/Owner Look Alike, Shortest & Longest Tail, and more.

Individual and business fundraising challenges have been created to motivate participation and encourage healthy habits, team building, and connection. This is the second year that PAWS will partner with The National Dog Show and its host, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia. This partnership helps extend PAWS’ reach into areas that may not be familiar with the organization. In addition, PAWS pet therapy teams will be present at the National Dog Show in November. Registration details Early Bird registration by Aug. 31 is $20 for adults; $10 children. Registration after Sept. 1 is $25 adults; $10 Children (12 and under) Register at here or call 302-351-5622.
