Pauline L. Neal, 89
EASTON - Pauline L. Neal, of Easton, died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, on Sunday Aug. 2, 2009. She was 89. Born in Denton, March 4, 1920, she was one of eight children of the late William Franklin and Mary Chance DeFord. After graduating from Denton High School in 1938, she married George E. Neal in June of that year. They made their home in Federalsburg before moving to Easton in 1945. From 1949 until 1953, she worked as a clerk at McCrory's Store in Easton and then in the cafeteria of Easton High School for the next four years. From 1957 until retiring in 1982, she worked at Read's Drug Store that later became Rite-Aid. She then worked the next two years on a part-time basis at Rite-Aid. A member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton and the Miriam Circle of the United Methodist Women of the church, she was a charter member of the Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association. She was also a member of the Whitemarsh Homemakers Club, an over 50-year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Easton Volunteer Fire Dept. and, for many years, a volunteer at the St. Mark's Thrift Shop. In 2005 Mrs. Neal was awarded both the Talbot County and Maryland State" You are Beautiful" awards. Her hobbies included crocheting and other handicrafts. Mr. Neal died Nov. 27, 1988. Surviving, are two daughters, A. Marie Jones and her husband Wesley of Easton, and Norma L. Stephens and her husband Herb of Englewood, Fla.; two sons, Donald E. Neal and wife Patricia of Woolford, and George K. Neal and his wife Desiree of Manassas, Va.; three sisters, Thelma C. Passaro of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Kathryn E. Trice of Denton, and A. Eloise Wooden of Charleston, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Four brothers, Francis A. DeFord, Edward F. DeFord, Earle J. DeFord and Charles R. DeFord are deceased. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at St Marks United Methodist Church, Easton, where friends may call one hour prior, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.
