Paul Blessing

HARRINGTON - Paul "Clifford" Blessing passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at home. Mr. Blessing was born July 7, 1925 in Vernon, Delaware to the late William Blessing, Sr. and Florence Morgan Blessing. He entered the United States Army in 1950 and married his wife Jean that December. After being discharged in 1952 Mr. Blessing went back to work on his family's farm until acquiring his own land, which the family is still farming today. For several years, he owned and operated a grain trucking business. In 1987 he went to work for the Delaware Department of Agriculture retiring in 2012, but continued to farm with his son and grandson. He was a long time member of the Delaware Farm Bureau and a strong supporter of the Lake Forest FFA and their Agriculture Department. He was also a founding member of the Cedarfield Ruritan Club. Mr. Blessing was an extremely social person; loved driving in his pick up and talking to people. He especially loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jean Hitchens Blessing in 1982; son Ronald Blessing in 2006; and brothers William Blessing, Jr., Russell and Floyd. He is survived by his son, Steven W. Blessing and daughter, Donna Lee Hilbert and her husband Jay all of Owings Mills, Md.; daughter in law, Melissa Blessing of Harrington; brother, Maurice Blessing of Milford; grandchildren, Dale Blessing, Julie Watson and her husband Larry, Lauren Dukes and her husband Dustin, Kellie Blessing and Kristine Hilbert; great grandsons, Rhett Watson and Dylan Dukes and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover, Del. Friends may call from 6-9 Saturday evening. Interment will be at Milford Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Ronnie Blessing Scholarship Fund: 4911 Fox Hunter Rd., Harrington, DE 19952. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
