CRAPO - Otis B. Creighton, 85, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2007, at Coastal Hospice on the Lake in Salisbury.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1921, in Fishing Creek and was a son of the late Milford Franklin and Cora Dean Creighton.
Mr. Creighton was raised in Fishing Creek and graduated from Hoopers Island High School in 1940. In December of 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and was a flight engineer on "Pansy-Yokum" B-17 with 35 missions at Kimbolton Air Base in the 379th Bomb Group in England. Mr. Creighton was honorably discharged in 1945. He received the European Theatre Ribbon, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, Presidential Citation and the Mechanics Medal.
On July 3, 1949, he married the former Alma Robbins. Mr. Creighton was a machinist at Oxford Boatyard and Cambridge Shipyard and prior to that he was a waterman. Mr. Creighton retired in 1993.
He was a member of Bounds United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 91.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma Creighton of Crapo; a daughter, Lana Dawn Wilde and her husband, David, of Crapo; a sister, Lula Spear, of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Julian C. Creighton.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Gary Crouch and the Rev. Lemuel Chester officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be members of the Patriot Guard Riders.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Jones, Tolley Yates, Eugene Harper and Russell McCollister.
