Oscar Loatman

DOVER - Oscar (Steve) Loatman, Jr. passed away on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Pinnacle Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna. He was born April 29, 1915 in Deer Field Township, N.J. to the late Alice and Oscar Loatman, Sr. Mr. Loatman had worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He farmed in New Jersey and Delaware then worked for Dover Trucking and Lowes as well as driving for the local Amish. Mr. Loatman was a member of the Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church where he had been a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR and watching the Phillies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Helen Dolly Loatman; brothers and sisters, Henry and Russell Loatman, Sarah Durham, Marion Davis, Lena Durham, Alice (Peadie) Loatman; and great-granddaughter, Andrea Loatman. He is survived by son, Donald Loatman and his wife Betty; brother, Buck Loatman; grandchildren, Donald Loatman, Jr. and Barbara Loatman; great-grandson, Sean Loatman; great-great-grandson, Dillon Loatman; and a host of beloved nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Forest Grove Seventh Day Adventist Church, PO Box 338, Cheswold, DE 19936.
