HARTLY - An unidentified person died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday, Delaware State Police said.
According to spokesperson Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell, the person was driving on Westville Road and failed to negotiate a turn while traveling at a high rate of speed at approximately 1:06 a.m. The vehicle, a Hummer H2 left the roadway and then struck a large tree before coming to a rest and then catching, Cpl. Hatchell said.
The operator of the Hummer who was not been identified Sunday, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending at this time.
Westville Road was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision.
