One injured in shooting at Dover’s American Legion post

Posted

DOVER — A 19-year-old man was shot in the thigh at American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 on Friday, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

At approximately midnight, officers were called to 835 S. Bay Road for a shots-fired report, and a large group of people dispersed when they arrived. Police learned that two unoccupied vehicles had been struck by gunfire and located numerous shell casings, Sgt. Hoffman said.

At approximately 1, police were notified that a man shot had arrived at ChristianaCare, Newark, by private vehicle. He provided multiple inconsistent accounts of the incident to detectives, Sgt. Hoffman said.

Around 2:50, Dover police were notified by the owner of a third vehicle that its window was shot out during the party at the post, authorities said. The owner told officers they had been inside during the shooting but observed the damage when leaving.

Police asked anyone with information to call 302-736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
