One dies in Laurel-area crash

LAUREL - A 29-year-old Maryland man died after his vehicle collided with a dump truck Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.

Spokesperson Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said the vehicle was traveling westbound on Horsey Church Road at approximately 7:42 a.m. when the incident occurred. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane and struck the front center of an eastbound dump truck.

The vehicle driver, of Salisbury, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 48-year-old dump truck driver, of Salisbury, was wearing a seatbelt and transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. There were four other passengers in the dump truck. All were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Horsey Church Road was closed for approximately five hours while the collision was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
