DOVER — Dover Police officers arrested Trevor Jenkins, 32, of Dover following a car crash and an attempted break-in on Friday evening, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Officers were originally dispatched to a car crash at 1001 White Oak Road at 5:13 p.m. Upon arrival, officers learned the operator had fled from the scene on foot.
While on the scene of the car crash, officers received a call that a subject was attempting to break into a home in the 200 block of Eisenhower Drive. Officers responded and took Mr. Jenkins into custody without incident.
After taking him into custody, officers learned Mr. Jenkins was shot in the leg, Sgt. Hoffman said. Mr. Jenkins, who was found to be the driver in the vehicle crash, stated that he was assaulted at White Oak Condos. Sgt. Hoffman said the Dover Police Department did not receive calls for shots fired in that area or anywhere else during the time of the incident.
Mr. Jenkins was taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus, where he was treated and released with minor injuries from the gunshot wound.
Mr. Jenkins, who was on home confinement, was issued a violation of probation and committed to Sussex County Correctional Institution in addition to being charged with driving under the influence, three counts of second degree criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and various traffic offenses.
The shooting remains under investigation.
