CAMBRIDGE - O. Burton Hastings, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Chesapeake Woods Center.
Mr. Hastings was born on Oct. 1, 1927, in East New Market. He was a son of the late Harlon E. and Pearlina May Cheesman Hastings.
Mr. Hastings grew up in and attended school in Madison. He served in the United States Army from Jan. 10, 1946, until receiving his honorable discharge on June 29, 1947. After serving his country, he operated his own business, Burton Hastings Inc. until he retired.
Mr. Burton, throughout his active life, was involved with many organizations such as Cambridge Lodge 1272 B.P.O.E. Elks, Cambridge Moose Lodge, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post 91. He also had enjoyed country music including playing, singing and collecting memorabilia. He had a special closeness to his family and a dear friend for many years, Jan Holden
Mr. Hastings is survived by his wife, Gail Hastings; a son, Herbert Glen Hastings; a stepson, Walt Robinson; a daughter, Lori Powley; a brother, Ray Hastings, all of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Rusty Hastings and Sheila Hastings; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Hastings of Delaware, Kirsten Andrews of Virginia and Charlie Mariner of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Burton Russell Hastings; four brothers, Leroy Hastings, Billy Hastings, James Hastings and Grover Hastings and two sisters, Virginia Moore and Anna Jean Gore.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. David L. Kreek officiating.
