GREENWOOD - Norwood Shahan of Greenwood passed away on February 2, 2015 at the age of 75. Mr. Shahan was born on May 30, 1939 in Odessa, the son of the late Dawson Sr. and Myrtle Shahan. He retired as a Trouble Serviceman for DP&L after over 30 years of service. Norwood was an owner, trainer and driver of standardbred racehorses. He was proud to have bred, raised and raced Abbe's Fancy, who was a seasons champion and horse of the year for two years at Dover Downs. Norwood had numerous stakes and race winners. He also enjoyed hunting. Norwood was a compassionate and giving man and was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever was in need. He told you what he thought, whether you liked it or not. He was a straight, up front and honest hard working man with his own way of getting things done. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Kohout; and his two brothers, Dawson and Donald Shahan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn; his son, Randy Shahan (his wife Shannon); his daughter, Valerie Warnick (her husband Edward); six grandchildren, Stacy (her husband Dwayne), Cheryl, Aaron, Ashley (her husband Scott), Blake (his wife Megan) and Wade; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Able; three sisters, Beulah Boyles, Shirley Jarman and Joan Woodall (her husband Norman); his brother, Gene Shahan; and several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral Services will begin 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
