LEWES — No one was injured after a car fire broke out in a garage at a residence on Peregrine Road, officials said Wednesday night.
Investigators determined that the fire — which heavily damaged the home — was accidental, Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said in a prepared statement.
The blaze, reported shortly before 7 p.m., occurred in the 35000 block of Peregrine Road. The Lewes Fire Department arrived on scene with flames visible in the garage, he said.
Deputy fire marshals were called to the scene to conduct the investigation, which found that the fire originated inside a car running in the garage, Mr. Chionchio said. He added that a mechanical malfunction in the vehicle caused the blaze.
Damages were estimated at $400,000.
