Coray Williams’ interception ended a marathon game and gave the Wesley College football team a hard-earned victory.
Williams picked off a pass in the fourth overtime to seal a 24-18 road win for the No. 22 Wolverines at No. 12 Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon. Wesley improved to 2-0.
The game finished 3-3 at the end of regulation and was that same score after the first overtime. The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the second and third overtimes before heading to the fourth.
Ruhann Peele caught the game-winning touchdown on a David Marrocco pass. Marrocco’s run failed on the two-point conversion, setting up Williams’ heroics on the next possession.
Peele also scored on a 13-yard pass from Marrocco in the third overtime. Corterris Simpson ran for the two-point conversion to force the fourth overtime tied at 18-18.
E.J. Lee contributed the other touchdown for Wesley on an eight-yard run in double overtime. But Delaware Valley scored their first touchdown of the game, tying the game at 10-10 and sending it to the third overtime.
Nick Bruhn hit a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter for the game’s first points. Delaware Valley tied it 3-3 on a field goal of its own with 11:12 left in the contest.
Marrocco finished with 197 yards passing on 16-of-36 attempts. Lee meanwhile netted 105 yards on the ground to lead the Wolverines in rushing.
Dante Daniel paced the Wesley defense with an interception and 12 tackles. Myles James also recorded in double-digits with 10 tackles.
The series between the two teams is now 4-3 in Wesley’s favor. The Wolverines also knocked off Delaware Valley 34-0 in the 2018 season opener.
