Three large fights in a month for Christina School District

NEWARK — For the third time in less than a month, police responded to a large fight in the Christina School District, authorities said.

The latest incident came Tuesday, when six Newark High students were arrested after multiple fights broke out around dismissal time, the Newark Police Department said.

An altercation among students began around 2:10 p.m., police said, and more brawls broke out nearby, as school resource officers attempted to intervene.

The SROs called for assistance, and roughly 12 Newark police officers responded. School staff also assisted in breaking up the fights.

The students arrested, ages 14 to 17, were transported to Newark PD. They were charged with resisting arrest and/or disorderly conduct, then released to their parents pending Family Court dates, police said.

No injuries occurred, and no weapons were involved, police said, adding that additional arrests are possible.

An attempt to reach Christina School District administration for comment was unsuccessful.

In an earlier incident, Feb. 8 at Glasgow High, two students were charged with felony rioting and other offenses following multiple fights there, Delaware State Police said. In addition, seven students were issued criminal summonses for disorderly conduct, while one was in possession of a taser, and another sustained facial lacerations, DSP said.

One day earlier, multiple fights among students broke out, also at Glasgow High. Police said there were no known injuries. One student was taken into custody after pushing a trooper and refusing to comply with commands, and police said charges were pending.

Authorities said all students who were identified as being involved in the altercations were released to their parents, and more arrests were expected.
