Break out the noisemakers and those funny glasses. It’s time to usher in 2023 while savoring the last hours of 2022.

If you’re not one of those who prefers to ring in the new year with a glass of Diet Coke while watching Ryan Seacrest shivering in Times Square, here are things you can do around the area to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Please note that Georgetown’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration was canceled Wednesday due to impending bad weather.

• In Dewey Beach, the Dewey Beach Partnership will sponsor the New Year’s Eve Celebration and Dewey Ball Drop. Festivities begin at 11:30 p.m. Gather between New Orleans Street and Del. 1 to watch the ball drop and ring in the new year.

• Also in Dewey Beach, the Rusty Rudder is set for live music featuring GoGo Gadget, Love Seed Mama Jump and Hector and Hugh. The $110 cover price includes an open bar, food and fireworks. Buy tickets at tickettailor.com/events/rustyrudder.

• The Lightship Overfalls in the Lewes Harbor at Canalfront Park in Lewes will hold its annual dropping of the lighted anchor at midnight.

Events start at 11:45 p.m. and last until 1 a.m. Donations to help preserve the lightship will be accepted. For more information about the Lightship Overfalls, visit overfalls.org.

• Also in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present an evening of fun with a screening of the Coen Brothers’ cult classic, “The Big Lebowski.”

Wear your favorite bathrobe or bowling shirt and win prizes. Enjoy giveaways, Lebowski’s favorite beverage (white Russians) and plenty of good cheer at 1998 prices. Happy hour and a costume contest begin at 7 p.m. and the film screens at 8 on Saturday.

The all-star cast includes John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Turturro and David Huddleston.

Purchase advance tickets at rehobothfilm.com or at the Cinema Art Theater box office, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Lewes, beginning 30 minutes prior to the screening.

• In Long Neck, Paradise Grill will hold its first New Year’s Eve party.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with no cover nor tickets needed and it is open to all ages.

On the Beach Stage at 7 p.m. will be Bryen O’Boyle, of Mr. Greengenes, with Just the Tip.

A special fireworks show will go off at 9 p.m.

• In Milton, the Winter Wonderfest Light Spectacular at Hudson Fields will go out with a bang with a fireworks show New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per vehicle. Wagon rides through the show are also available. To purchase tickets, go to wonderfestde.org.

• In Rehoboth Beach, Sussex Pride, a nonprofit organization for the LGBTQ+ community in Sussex County, will host a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center starting at 7 p.m. The event is being planned in partnership with the Gay Women of Rehoboth Meetup Group.

The celebration will feature music from DJ Sue P, who recently performed on the Sussex Pride Float at the Sea Witch Festival.

The evening will also feature two half-hour drag performances at 9:30 and 11 p.m. curated by Rehoboth Beach drag performer and hostess Diamond Doll. Performers will also include Ivy Blue Austin, with other surprise guests. Other highlights include multiple holiday themed “selfie stations,” party favors and hanging mistletoe. Light snacks will be available.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Sussex Pride, which works to celebrate, strengthen and support the LGBTQ+ community in Sussex County and the state of Delaware, working through a social justice lens.

Tickets are available at Sussexpride.org. All are welcome.

• The Riverfront Development Corp. of Delaware will once again host a fireworks show on the Christina Riverwalk in Wilmington on New Year’s Eve.

The show will serve as the culmination of the Riverbright Wilmington Holiday Magic Light Display. The show will take place over the Christina River beginning shortly after 9 p.m.

The fireworks will be visible from most locations along the Riverwalk, with prime viewing between the Public Dock and Riverfront Market areas. Guests are encouraged to park in the Riverfront Commuter Lot at 601 S. Madison St.

• After a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delaware Children’s Museum in Wilmington will once again host its popular New Year’s Eve Confetti Countdown. To accommodate guests, they will now have four separate countdowns with confetti drops, at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Each will be kicked off with a countdown from 10, culminating with a confetti cannon showering guests.

The event allows children to ring in the new year at an age-appropriate time. In addition to the countdowns, the museum will offer new year’s themed lighting and décor, puppet shows, live music from local band We Kids Rock, as well as their fun and educational programming and exhibits.

The museum is at 550 Justison St. For tickets and more information, visit Delawarechildrensmuseum.org.

In Maryland, try a few of these New Year’s Eve events:

• In downtown Princess Anne, Marshall Muskrat will welcome 2023 as he descends to Somerset Avenue at midnight for his “Midnight Muskrat Dive.”

The celebration begins at 9 p.m. and admission is free.

New this year, enjoy live music with Uprizing and free horse-drawn carriage rides. Marshall Muskrat will dive from a 30-foot height, illuminated by a synchronized LED light display.

As he dives into the new year, confetti will fill the air.

Free food will be available, with fresh-shucked oysters at an oyster bar and Smith Island Cake.

New Year’s Eve essentials will be available, including free New Year’s hats and party favors, and a free sparkling cider toast at midnight.

The event will be held along Somerset Avenue between The Washington Inn & Tavern and Squeaky’s Cafe.

• Beginning at 6 p.m., the Rock Hall Crawl Hat Parade is set for Main Street at the crab basket trees.

Categories include Best Rock Hall, Best Pair or Group, Funniest, Best Kids, Most Patriotic, Best Use of Lights, Best Winter Wonderland and Best Overall. Gift cards and prizes will be available.

Later that night, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company and Rock Hall Parks and Recreation will sponsor the annual Rockfish Drop at midnight at the Bayside Avenue bulkhead where the state fish will be dropped to usher in 2023.

• The free New Year’s Eve Ball Drop is back in downtown Salisbury starting at 9 p.m.

Live music will be from AMP Studios, Wavvy Gravy, DJ B-Side and Marlee.

This year’s ball drop will be near the intersection of Main Street and North Division Street, complete with a full stage, and a 4.5-foot-wide ball lit with thousands of LED lights.

The outdoor stage will feature two countdown screens plus confetti and the ball drop at midnight, lowered by the Salisbury Fire Department tower truck. Beer and wine will be available for purchase outside.

Warm drinks and snacks will also be offered by local retailers and food trucks. Free parking will be available in the parking garage.

Happy New Year!
