DOVER - A NASCAR Hauler Parade will be held through the city of Dover on Thursday, Sept. 29 as part of the festivities surrounding the Sept. 30-Oct. 2 NASCAR tripleheader weekend, Dover International Speedway officials announced today.
A line of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series haulers will travel on some of the city’s most prominent downtown streets and near some of Kent County’s famous landmarks, including Legislative Hall, Loockerman Street and State Street on their way toward the speedway. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. and is free.
The parade will begin at Legislative Mall in downtown Dover and proceed on Legislative Avenue in downtown Dover, before turning left onto Loockerman Street, then right on State Street. From there, the haulers will proceed to the track via Leipsic Road and arrive at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The first NASCAR Hauler Parade in Dover was held in 2013, which attracted approximately 10,000 people along the route and featured dozens of 80-foot tractor trailers traveling through the city. Parades were also scheduled in 2014 and 2015 but were canceled due to inclement weather.
“This is a great event for the fans and we’re excited to be able to bring it back,” said Mike Tatoian, president and CEO of Dover International Speedway. “Colorful haulers have been a symbol of the sport for decades, and we’re pleased to be able to share their appeal with local fans and the community. It’s a wonderful kickoff to what’s sure to be another great race weekend.”
The Sept. 30-Oct. 2 NASCAR weekend includes the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Friday, Sept. 30, the “Drive Sober 200” presented by the Delaware Office of Highway Safety NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Saturday, Oct. 1 and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is the first elimination race of the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship playoffs. For four of the 16 playoff-eligible drivers, their championship dreams will be over in Dover.
