Johnson, 55 NEW LONDON, PA - Nancy Edwards Johnson passed away on Dec. 17, 2015 in the comfort of her home. Nancy was born on Oct. 5, 1960 in West Chester, PA. Nancy spent the first years of her life in Kennett Square, PA with her parents, Richard (Dick) and Betty F. Edwards who predeceased her, older sister Barbara and brother Mark, who also predeceased her. Around age 4 Nancy moved with her family to Heritage Park, in Pike Creek Valley, were she was soon joined by younger sisters Beth and Donna. Nancy attended John Dickinson High School where she was a proud member of the Class of 1978. Nancy, then known as "Streak of Speed", was an All-State Field Hockey player on the 1977 State Field Hockey Championship team. After graduation Nancy worked for several different Wilmington law firms where she earned the reputation as a dedicated and loyal employee. In Apr. 1981 Nancy met the love of her life, Jeff Johnson, on a Goldey Beacom College trip to Bermuda. Nancy and Jeff quickly fell in love and were married in Delaware City on Nov. 27, 1982. In Oct. 1984 they welcomed their daughter, Lauren, into their lives. Their happy family was complete in Nov. 1987 with the birth of their son, Palmer. Nancy was a wonderful and devoted mother to her children. She was involved in all of their activities including various positions within the PTA organizations at their schools. Nancy was very proud of her children's academic accomplishments and professional successes. While raising her young children, Nancy decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Nancy took care of the children during the day, and then attended night classes at Delaware Technical and Community College for several years before graduating in 1996. Nancy obtained her RN license shortly thereafter. She spent time working in multiple specialties, but found her true passion in caring for oncology patients. She provided immeasurable comfort to countless patients and their families during some of the most difficult times they faced. Nancy was always concerned with her patient's well-being and went above and beyond the normal call of duty in caring for them. She was also proud to serve on her alma maters Nursing Advisory Board over the past few years. From the time they were married in 1982 until 2005, Nancy and her family lived in the Pike Creek area. In 2005, Nancy and Jeff moved into their dream home in New London, PA. Nancy and the family have traveled extensively and had many wonderful vacations together. Nancy was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, and especially loved the Eagles. Nancy was thrilled in Sep. 2011 when her daughter was married. However the biggest thrill of her life was the arrival of her first granddaughter, Avery, last year. In addition to being survived by Jeff, Lauren, her husband Matt and their daughter Avery, Palmer and his girlfriend, Pamela Stellfox; Nancy leaves behind her sisters and their spouses, Barbara Deputy (Hershal), Beth Powell (Lloyd) and Donna Guglielmo (Paul); as well as her father-in-law, Dick Johnson and fiancé, Jody Burchard; her sister-in-law, Cindy Dempsey (Charlie); and brother-in-law, Mark Johnson. Nancy is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to Funeral Services on Tuesday, Dec 22nd at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road. Wilmington at 11 AM.
