Myra L. Hairgrove, 90

DOVER - Myra L. Hairgrove, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 90. Mrs. Hairgrove was born April 13, 1918 in Berlin, Md., to the late John J. Gibbs and Myra E. Birch Gibbs. She worked as a secretary for 15 years with USAC Trucking Company and then 10 years as a bookkeeper for Dr. Robert Fox. One of Myra's favorite hobbies was crocheting. She earned several first place ribbons at the Delaware State Fair and she loved to crochet doggie afghan's for her daughter's golden retrievers, Brandy and Cierra. Mrs. Hairgrove also loved to cook and was known especially for her clams casino and crab imperial dishes. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. They loved celebrating New Year's Eve at Time Square in New York City and went there often. She enjoyed trips to Maine and skiing in New England. Mrs. Hairgrove was a very loving, caring, generous, and compassionate person who always thought of putting others first. Myra also loved being involved in her daughter's second grade classes and often made special things for the students. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed family reunions. She had a love for life, truly enjoyed meeting new people, and always made others feel better. Mrs. Hairgrove was a special lady who was loved by her family and will be deeply missed. The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Erika Cruz, her caregiver, Kathryn Cannedy, her nurse, and Charity Peregoy, her social worker, of Dover Hospice. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Elsie Murray, Betty Datesman, Kendall Gibbs, John Gibbs Jr., and Wallace Gibbs. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arthur Lee Hairgrove, of Dover; her daughter, Cindy Hairgrove Stolson and her husband Jon, of Rehoboth Beach; grandson, Steven Stolson and his wife Crystal; and two great grandsons, Devin and Braddock Stolson, all of North Carolina. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and other family relatives. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Local arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover. Letters of condolences may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
