TOWNSEND — A motorcycle operator and his passenger died Monday when struck by a vehicle on Green Giant Road, Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.
The 68-year-old male operator was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 63-year-old female was transported via ambulance to ChristianaCare, Newark, where she was pronounced dead. Both were Middletown residents.
Police said the westbound 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was struck by an eastbound 2007 Chrysler Town & Country that crossed double yellow lines while passing another vehicle. Both occupants were ejected from the motorcycle.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Town & Country was wearing a seat belt and did not sustain any injuries. Impairment is not considered a factor, Cpl. Hatchell said.
The victims’ identification was pending notification of next of kin.
Green Giant Road between Wiggins Mill Road and Summit Bridge Road was closed for approximately four hours, while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The crash remains under investigation by the DSP Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Detective Breen at 365-8486. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or by visiting here.
