SMYRNA — Despite all M.O.T.’s success in District I, state titles have been more difficult to come by for the Middletown-area Little League.

But M.O.T. finally earned another ticket to Bristol, Conn. by downing Newark American, 6-2, in the Major League baseball state championship game on Saturday night.

It was M.O.T.’s first state title since 2009. This was Middletown’s fifth state tourney appearance in the six years since then,

The Mid-Atlantic Regional starts on Aug. 10 in Bristol, Conn. M.O.T. opens pool play with a 4 p.m. game against New York.

M.O.T. has now won seven games in a row since falling to Felton-Harrington, 7-6, on July 20. Four of those victories came by just one run with a few following sixth-inning comebacks.

Saturday’s victory, though, wasn’t nearly as dramatic as M.O.T. built a 4-0 lead before putting away Newark American.

M.O.T. got a two-run homerun from Brody Sapp in the first inning and another two-run homer from Alex Ruiz in the sixth after Newark American had closed within 4-2. Pitcher Conner Whatlin earned the victory.
