Mishell Josef Stucki

SALISBURY - Mishell Josef Stucki died with his wife by his side on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. Born in Logan, Utah, he was the son of the late Alvin Joseph Stucki and Barbara Taylor Stucki.
He graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and received his Bachelor's Degree in mathematics from Harvard University. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was part of the research group that designed and developed the LINC, the first minicomputer and a forerunner of the personal computer. There, he met his wife, Loretta Herzins Stucki, who was also part of the MIT group.
The research group subsequently relocated to Washington University in St. Louis, where he earned his graduate degree in electrical engineering. He was later employed by the McDonnell Douglas Corp. in the field of computer systems.
Upon retiring and relocating to Salisbury, he and his wife became avid ballroom dancers. His other interests included the study of linguistics and world languages.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta; his daughter, Nicole D. Stucki, of Anchorage, Alaska; his sister, Gina M. Stucki of Australia; his brother, Manfried H. Stucki of Los Angeles; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence V. Stucki; and his sister, Tanya Blair.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, June 24, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury. Arrangements are in the care of Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury.
