Municipal elections Saturday brought success for both incumbents and challengers.
Voters in Milton elected a new mayor, current councilman John Collier, who outpolled two-term mayoral incumbent Theodore Kanakos 376 to 239. That term is for three years.
Mr. Collier, who previously served on council from 2013-14, and was elected in 2021 for a term that runs from 2021-2024. Mr. Kanakos was first elected to Milton council in 2015, then elected to his first term as mayor in 2016.
Unopposed in securing two open Milton council seats were Annette Babich and Larry Savage. They, along with Mr. Collier, are to be sworn in at Milton’s next council meeting, set for April 4.
In Selbyville, challenger Carol Cary and current councilman Richard Duncan secured the two open seats while incumbent Jay Murray fell short.
Ms. Cary polled 146 votes, Mr. Duncan had 123 and Mr. Murray drew 92 votes.
Official results Saturday of the town of Millville’s election were not available. Candidates seeking two council seats were Peter Michel, Paul Stark and incumbent Ron Belinko, who serves as mayor.
