DAGSBORO — It took just one play for the Milford Buccaneers to take the lead in Friday night’s Henlopen South showdown against Indian River.

Milford senior running back David Bowman turned the game’s first play from scrimmage into a 63-yard touchdown run, darting through a gaping hole opened up by his offensive line.

Bowman would go on to run for four more touchdowns in Milford’s 52-0 shutout of the Indians.

“We’re trying to win the South, so everybody came out focused because they know we have to win the rest of these conference games to win it. So, we came out focused ready to play,” Bowman said.

The win puts Milford at 6-2, setting up next week’s heavyweight Henlopen South showdown at Delmar (7-1).

Milford’s offense provided points on eight of the team’s nine possessions, including seven touchdowns and a Jonathan Gaglione 27-yard field goal.

Bowman accounted for five of Milford’s seven rushing touchdowns, four of which were scored on consecutive drives in the opening quarter.

Rahshawn Price added a 99-yard TD run in the second quarter and sophomore Dion Warner dashed down the field for a 55-yard fourth quarter touchdown to seal the second-half scoring.

Indian River’s offense turned the ball over four times against Milford’s stout defensive unit on their way to a second consecutive shutout loss.

As soon as the final whistle blew in Dagsboro, head coach Shaun Strickland had already shifted his focus to the Delmar match-up.

“From snap one to the very last snap we came out and we finished tonight, we have to do that next week against Delmar,” Strickland said. “We have to come out on fire, on the road, we can’t come out flat. We have to do this same thing next week.”
