SALISBURY - Mildred P. Thomas, 97, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Genesis Eldercare in Salisbury.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1909, in Amsterdam, N.Y., and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Johanna Savage Varsoke.

Mrs. Thomas graduated from St. Mary's High School in Amsterdam, N.Y. On Oct. 12, 1935, she married Victor Thomas who passed away on March 6, 1987.

For many years, she was employed by Mohawk Carpets as a carpet inspector. Prior to moving to Salisbury, she lived in the Cambridge and Hurlock areas. Mrs. Thomas was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary. She was a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Robin Hood Shop.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Thomas Merrick and husband, Linford "Pete" Merrick of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Laird T. Douglas and wife, Katherine of East New Market and Nicole R. Douglas and husband, Charles Hayward Jr. of East New Market and two great-grandchildren, Aiden Douglas Hayward and Alexis Brittan Hayward.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary with the Rev. Anthony F. Greco Celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box 554, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Robin Hood Shop, 416 High St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
