Middletown residence heavily damaged by fire

Posted

MIDDLETOWN — An accidental fire caused $150,000 in damage to a residence Wednesday, the State Fire Marshal’s office said.

Spokesman Michael Chionchio said the blaze was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 900 block of Willow Court in the Villagebrook Trailer Park. The Volunteer Hose Co. of Middletown arrived on the scene with flames engulfing the mobile home, but all occupants were able to escape, he said.

An investigation determined that the fire originated inside an exterior gazebo and burned into the residence. Discarded cigarettes were the cause, Mr. Chionchio said.

Two adults and one child were displaced. The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance.
