PARSONSBURG - Michael "Mike" Joseph Walsh Sr., formerly of Fruitland, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville, Md., after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Salisbury he was a son of the late Douglas Franklin Walsh Sr. and Elsie Niblett Andrews.
His passion was baseball and one of his proudest achievements came in 1962, where as a member of the 1961-1962 Suburban Gas House Little League team, he was proudly selected as a member of the All-Star team. He umpired for Fruitland Little League for many years.
He worked at Crown, Cork & Seal in Fruitland for 30 years, retiring as a forklift operator. He was a past deacon at Fruitland Christian Church He is survived by children, Christine Marie Cropper of Salisbury, Michael Joseph Walsh Jr. of Parsonsburg and Shannon Kelley of Laurel; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Douglas Walsh Jr. and Steven Walsh; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Margaret Hill.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Interment was in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
