Michael Daniel Herholdt

MILFORD - Michael Daniel 'Mike' Herholdt, Sr. surrounded by his family, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at the Delaware Veterans Center Milford, Del. He was born in Dover, Del. on June 2, 1942 son of the late John Frederick Herholdt and Elisabeth Satterfield Herholdt. Mr. Herholdt graduated from Milford High School class of 1960. He married Elaine Hall in 1961. He enlisted in the Delaware National Guards in 1960-serving his country for 28 years. Mr. Herholdt was active in the community playing in various Rock and Roll bands throughout Delaware, especially the Dynatones. He owned and operated the family business Satterfield and Ryan, Electrical Contractors prior to being stricken with Alzheimer's approximately four years ago. He loved playing music and playing the drums and played in the Citizens Hose Band, in Smyrna Delaware. Along with music, he had a great love for the railroad. He was the owner of Delaware Coast Line Railroad and High Power Equipment, and train engineer for Delaware Coast Line Railroad. He will always be remembered for his vibrant smile , friendliness, and truly enjoyed life. He was a family man who truly cared for his family . He was a member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir. For many years, he worked at the Delaware State Fair which was another one of his favorite pastimes. He was also an avid Ham Radio Operator. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Josephine Elaine Hall Herholdt; three sons, Michael D. 'Danny' and his wife Jean Roberts, John Patrick 'JP' Herholdt and his wife Jennifer Hadley, and Wesley Robert Herholdt and his wife Jennifer Ware all of Milford; ten grandchildren, Ben, Johnny Cassie, Samuel and Gloria, Jonathan, Jessica, Michael, Tyler and Nicholas Herholdt; three brothers, Eric Herholdt and wife Ann of Wilmington, John 'Jeff' Herholdt and his wife Nancy of Sissonville W. Va. and Thomas Herholdt and his wife Tricia of Milford; his mother in law, Charlotte Kimmey of Seaford, Del.; plus several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 23, 2012 at the Chapel of Lincoln United Methodist Church Butler Street Lincoln, Delaware, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a viewing. Interment will be Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the Lincoln United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Lincoln, DE 19960 or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963. Arrangements handled by Barry Short Funeral Home, Milford Del.
