Melvin F. Lucas

DOVER - Melvin F. Lucas passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 80. He was born on June 17, 1931, in Pennsylvania, son of the late Rollie and Izella (Bealty) Lucas. Melvin served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Pennsylvania as a mail carrier. Melvin was a member of the NRA and the AARP, and enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was preceded in death by a brother, Burl Lucas. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jean Lucas; a son, USAF Tech Sgt. Mark Lucas and his wife Janice of Magnolia; sister-in-law, Clara Lucas of Mercer, Pa.; niece, Roxanne Mild of Pennsylvania; and a nephew, Ron Lucas of West Virginia. Services will be 9 a.m., Friday, April 13, at the Carpenter Chapel, Dover Air Force Base Housing, Dover. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Fisher House, 116 Purple Heart Dr., DAFB, DE 19902. Letters of condolence can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
