HARBESON - May (Ellingsworth) Kopple, of Harbeson, was joined together again with her beloved Wallace, on Saturday, March 31, 2012, in her home. She was 95. May was born in Milton, daughter of the late George and Pauline (Messick) Ellingsworth. After the death of her mother, at the age of 6, May went to live with Annie and Walter Crouch, who raised her and whom she considered her parents. May was a nurse's aid with Millsboro Nursing Home and later with Beebe Hospital, where she retired in 1982. May was a farm wife, and stayed very busy raising chickens and babysitting her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. May was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She allowed chocolate at every meal, if wanted, and always saved room for dessert. May was a very active member of Harbeson U.M. Church, and the United Methodist Women, where she held many offices over the years. She was a member for over 50 years of the Sussex County Association for Family and Community Education (formerly Harbeson Homemakers). In addition to her mother and father, May is preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Walter Crouch; husband, Wallace E. Kopple, in 2011; and siblings, Woody Ellingsworth, Sally Scott, Reginald Ellingsworth and Bill Crouch. She is survived by two children, Jeanette Wagner and husband Bud, and Ed Kopple and wife Kay, all of Harbeson; a sister, Mary Betty "BeBe" Cannon, of Milton; four grandchildren, Sharon Mews, Jeff Wagner, Donna Kopple, and Dottie Lank and husband Nick; seven great grandchildren, Catlyn Mews, Riley Wagner, Kelsey Buchanan, Gary, Jamel and Jayden Johnson and Axl Lank; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation after 12 p.m. Burial will be in Harbeson Cemetery, Harbeson. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made to Harbeson U.M. Church, PO Box 45, Harbeson, DE 19951 or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Delaware Hospice and May's private caregivers: Gina, Linda and Jackie, with a special thank you, for their exceptional care of the last few years and especially during her final days.
