DOVER - Maryland resident Mark Coleman, 33, is facing kidnapping and rape charges after an alleged incident on Sept. 3, authorities said.
According to Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, at 2:24 a.m. Delaware State Police took the report of a rape involving a juvenile.
After speaking with the juvenile, police said, it was determined that the incident occurred in Dover. Investigation was then turned over to Dover police.
Detectives determined that Mr. Coleman, of Worton, allegedly picked the juvenile up from a residence outside of the city, police said. Mr. Coleman then drove the juvenile to a vacant business where a rape and assault allegedly occurred.
Police said Mr. Coleman fled from the scene and the juvenile was taken to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus and treated for injuries sustained during the incident.
Police said that Mr. Coleman was taken into custody on Thursday by the Middletown Township Police Department in Pennsylvania after being contacted on an unrelated complaint.
Mr. Coleman is currently being held in Bucks County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Delaware. Pending charges include second-degree kidnapping, second-degree rape, second-degree assault, theft under $1,500 (two counts), terroristic threatening, and second-degree unlawful sexual contact.
