SELBYVILLE — A 19-year-old Maryland man was charged with felony assault after allegedly hitting a stranger with his vehicle, Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
According to authorities, on Tuesday at approximately 4:53 p.m., a 53-year-old man from Fenwick Island exited the Harris Teeter grocery store at 31221 Americana Parkway in Selbyville. While crossing the parking lot, a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Robert Sadowski Jr., 19, of Bishopville, Maryland, began driving toward the man. As Mr. Sadowski approached the man, he allegedly accelerated and swerved the truck into where he was standing, police said. The truck struck the man and knocked him to the ground, causing a minor injury, Cpl. Pepper added.
Through investigative leads, Mr. Sadowski was identified as the driver of the Silverado. He was contacted and turned himself in to DSP Troop 4. He was charged with second-degree assault, arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Rehoboth Beach, and released on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
