Mary W. Todd, 87
CAMBRIDGE - Mary W. Todd, died Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, in Dorchester General Hospital. She was 87. Born Feb. 24, 1922 in Drawbridge, Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Winfield Scott Willey and Lillie Elizabeth Adkins Willey. On June 30, 1946 she married John Melvin Jones. Mr. Jones died Nov. 10, 1958. On September 2, 1966 she married Howard Insley Todd Sr. Mr. Todd died August 30, 1982. Mrs. Todd was a self employed beautician for well over 60 years. Her business, Mary's Beauty Salon, was located on Peachblossom Avenue in Cambridge. For the past several years she worked alongside her daughter, Linda at her shop named Linda's Wright Touch on Washington Street. Mrs. Todd has belonged to several various churches within Cambridge, however has been a member of Souls Harbor Church of God for several years. Mrs. Todd was not only known in the community for her beauty salon, but equally as much for her great talented ability to make heirloom knitting and crocheting. People would call her to make specialty items for their family and often one could see her product for sale in the local shops. Mrs. Todd was also an accomplished baker, candy maker and cook. Preceding her in death, besides her parents and husbands, was a brother, Winfield Scott Willey Jr.; and two sisters, Emma Jean Bramble and Cora King. Surviving are three children from the union of her first marriage, Linda Wright and her husband George of Cambridge, Dennis W. Jones of Madison, and Teresa Stelzner and her husband Stephen of Church Creek; two step-children, Howard I. Todd Jr. and his wife Barbara of Hurlock, and Nancy Todd Ruark and her husband Samuel of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Michelle Anders and her husband Bryan, Ryan A. Jones, Anthony Stelzner II and his wife Miki, G.W. Wright III, Scott K. Jones, and Jonathan Wright and his wife Erica; five step-grandchildren, Christopher Ruark and his wife Kim, Melissa Fuhr and her husband Martin, Emily Kund and her husband Matt, Howard Todd III and his fiancé Meghan Collier, and Sarah Geer and her husband Tommy; a great-grandson, Brennan Anders; three step-great-grandchildren, Todd Ruark, Morgan Ruark and Alex Kund; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 10 at Souls Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. J. Edward King. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
