MIDDLETOWN - Mary E. Mullen, 87, of Middletown, passed away on Jan. 6, 2009, while in Christiana Care Center, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 87. She was born on Feb. 5, 1921, to John and Margaret (Moore) Hobson of Appleton, Md. In 1940, she married James C. Mullen and together they raised their family around Middletown, where she continued to reside. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church for over seventy years and enjoyed her involvement with the Jean Birch MOT Senior Center of which her late husband was a co-founder. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Mullen; a son, John W. Mullen; and a brother, John Hobson. She is survived by four children, Patricia Anderson and her husband Axel of Felton, Eleanor Rawley and her fiance', Sonny Thompson, of Middletown, Jim Mullen and his wife Martha of Charlottesville, Va. and M. Jacqueline Reardon and her husband, Jeff, of Pike Creek; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Lou Mullen. Mary is also survived by her grandchildren whom she enjoyed very much, Dean Anderson of Felton, Terri Anderson, who resided with her; grandmother, Kristin Anderson of Florida, Barbara Short and Lisa O'Grady of Middletown, Heather Boyd of California, Todd Mullen of Virginia, Jeff Mullen of Dover, Amy Hearon of Oklahoma, Shane Mullen of Smyrna, and Jordan, Jack and Shannon Reardon of Pike Creek. Mary also enjoyed her many great-grandchildren and visits from friends and neighbors. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening, from 7-9 p.m. at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Interment will be in Old Bohemia Cemetery in Warwick, Md. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church Building Fund, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, DE or to the Jean Birch MOT Senior Center Building Fund, 300 S. Scott Street, Middletown, DE 19709. Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
