HOUSTON - Mary E. Harris, of Houston, passed away peacefully Jan. 20, 2009, at home. She was born July 9, 1912, to the late Ola and Edward Cirwithian of Milford Neck. Mrs. Harris retired from Libby, McNeil and Libby Canning Plant in 1967 after many years of service. She performed many jobs there, but one of her favorite was operating the labeling machine. Everyone that passed her home remembers her vegetable and flower gardens, shrubs and trees. Some of them were rare. The red maples seedling she gave to many as well as smoked trees, hot pokers and many variety of irises and mums. The community of Houston will truly miss this Great Lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ola Cirwithian; husband, Nelson Harris; sister, Hazel Burriss; and brothers, Finley and Grant Cirwithian. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Saffold of Houston; and a great many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends in various parts of the country, and a dearest friend, Barbara Barner and long time friend who was like a sister, Grace McKensie of Florida. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 24 at Community Pentecostal Church of God, 5033 Gun and Ride Road, Houston. Burial will be in Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Milford. Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
