Mary E. Capel, 84

MIDDLETOWN - Mary E. Capel, formerly of Chestertown, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, in Chester River Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Capel was the last of 10 children to survive the late Julius and Emma Zinn Bartz. During World War II, she worked for Kent Manufacturing Co., making detonators for the armed services. She retired from Campbell Soup Co, after 22 years of service. Mrs. Capel had lived her entire life on the family farm in Morgnec, until moving to Middletown with her daughter in 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Capel in 1986; and son, Clifford 'Buster' Capel. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Smith and husband Robert, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Eugene Smith and wife Terri, Kevin Capel and wife Susan, Michael Smith, Kathy Smith, and Robin Thompson; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be noon Saturday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md., where friends may call one hour prior. Burial in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown. Memorials may be offered to Kent County Relay for Life, P.O. Box 1001, Chestertown, MD 21620.
