
Mary Cathryn Hurd, 80
FELTON — Mary Cathryn Hurd was called home on Jan. 10, 2013. She was born Sept. 23, 1932 to the late Joseph C. and Mae V. Steel of Henderson, Md.
Mary C. Hurd was a loving daughter, caring wife, loving mother, grand mother, and great-grandmother. She worked hard to support her family and retired from Playtex Apparel of Dover. She had a passion for country music and loved to go dancing at the Camden/Wyoming Moose Lodge where she was a member since 1997.
Mary went home to be with her late husband, Arthur "Pete" Hurd, Jr. whom left this world in 2002. She is also rejoicing with her daughter, Suzanne "Pudge" Hurd in 1984; her son-in-law, Richard W.J. "Tex" Couden in 2002; she is also rejoicing with her two brothers and sisters, Amos and Shirley Jones, Robert "Bob" and Ethel Steele, Joseph Steele, Emma Steele, Robert "Bobby" and Alta Wingard, Clara and Cleveland Camper, Esther and Floyed Burlingame, she was also close to her husbands side of the family, Clarance Hurd, Walter "Hubby" Hurd, Ralph "Jim" Hurd, and a sister-in-law, Susie Webber.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary "Arlene" Couden of Felton, whom she lived with and was her caregiver; her son, Richard A. "Rabbit" Hurd and daughter-in-law, Donna of Harrington; she also leaves behind her grandchildren and their families, Kasie Hurd of Harrington, Heather Patterson and her husband Scott "Bean", and Andrea Dre/Freddie Hurd of Dover, Chance and his wife Erika Couden of Harrington, and Choice Couden of Felton; three great-grandchildren, Skylar Mayle of Ohio, Cohen Hurd and Kendall Clark both from Harrington; her sisters, Anna Mae Durham of Greensboro, Md., Alice Lucks and Edna Peiffer of Camden/Wyoming, and Ruth Steele of Dover; sister-in-laws, Julia Thorpe, Martha Allen, Maryann Simmions, and Charlotte Hurd; a couple of close friends, Emilie Oechny of Marydel, and Alison Morris of Dover; and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed and will be in everyone hearts and memories.
Remembrance services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, where friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901.
