Marjorie Kay (Schaffer) Horan died peacefully on Jan. 20, 2014, after a lengthy illness and surrounded by her family at Saint Francis Hospital. She was born on Aug 8, 1949 in Easton, Pa. She is the daughter of Florence E. Slaughter of Dover; the late Oliver C. Schaffer of Easton, Pa.; and step-daughter of the late Noble H. Slaughter of Hartly. She is survived by her son, Darren C. Schaffer and his love, Katie Turner of Ocean City, Md.; her mother, Florence E. Slaughter of Dover; and her brother and his wife, William (Bill) C. and Ruby Schaffer of Dover. She also is survived by her niece and husband, Stacy and Brian Howard and their two sons, Evan and Miles of Middletown; and her nephew, Marc W. Schaffer of Portland, Ore. During her life, Marjorie worked for JCPenney, Dover Electric Company, and Johnson's Mini Mart. In her younger years, Marjorie enjoyed traveling and loved her kitty. More recently she greatly enjoyed viewing a wide variety of movies and hearing about family members, especially Evan and Miles. Marjorie loved her family very much and told them so at every opportunity. She enjoyed the family gatherings, cookouts, and celebrations at Bill and Ruby's house. Marjorie's visits to extended family in Pennsylvania were very important to her. Although she wasn't able to go in recent years, she often thought about Uncle Walt, Aunt Carol, Brenda, and other cousins. Marjorie was named after her Aunt Marjorie Fenner and her daughter, Brenda Kay Fenner. Bill would often pick up his mother and take Marjorie's favorite Capriotti's Bobbie sub to her for a visit. She will be greatly missed, especially by her mother who was her best friend and constant telephone companion. Marjorie was very proud of her son, Darren, and loved him and Katie very much. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pinnacle Rehab and Health Center for their loving care of Marjorie during her long illness. A viewing will be held at Torbert Funeral Home located at 61 South Bradford Street, Dover, DE, on Friday, January 24, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Kent County SPCA. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
