Marie Ann Carey, 62
DOVER - Marie Ann Carey passed away peacefully Friday, March 19, 2021 at home, with her husband Donald by her side.
Marie was born March 17, 1959 in Homestead, Florida to the late Fred Ralph Stewart and Dorothy Eleanor Farley Stewart.
She met her husband, Donald in high school and was the love of her life, married and started a family. Her strength, love and dedication for her family were undeniable. She loved flower gardening, the beach, shopping with her daughter Melissa. She loved to decorate her house with quoted signs and loved collecting angels; they were her guardians in life.
Marie remained strong, faithful and a fighter right up to the very end. Her spirit and will to live were amazing. Just like her Facebook bio "Strong women aren't simply born; they are made strong by the storms they walk through". Marie walked through many storms and fought with true grit and determination. Throughout her 20 year battle with Stage Four breast cancer Marie mentored, encouraged and gave hope to so many others battling this dreadful disease. Marie was a part of every Program at the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. She was instrumental in helping to start their Forever Fighters support group for women with metastic breast cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Donald Frederick Carey of Dover; children, Melissa Carey (Curt Lowman), Donnie Carey, Jr. (Shannon) and Dylan Carey all of Dover; sister, Brenda Stewart of West Chester, Pa.; grandchildren, Jaxson and Dallas; as well as extended cousins from Upstate New York. She also left behind her beloved "doxie", Frankie.
Special thank you to Shannon and Pam from Delaware Hospice for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, 164 Commerce Way, Suite 2, Dover, DE 19904.
