Marguerite King Reed

SLAUGHTER NECK - Marguerite King Reed, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 in Brandywine Assisted Living. Marguerite was born in Drawbridge, Del. on March 28, 1916, daughter of the late Ira and Delema (Campbell) Wells, formerly of Milton. Marguerite graduated from Lewes High School. She married Frank L. Reed, Sr., in 1934, and became a homemaker. She had worked part-time during Christmas for Coffman Fisher Co, in the toy department for a few years and also for Leggett Department Store. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Marguerite was known for being a gourmet cook and enjoyed having family and friends for dinner. She enjoyed reading her Bible and attending Lincoln United Methodist Church. Marguerite also enjoyed playing the piano, crossword puzzles, working in the garden, canning and freezing fresh vegetables and fruits. In addition to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Reed, Sr., in 2004; a son, Frank L. Reed, Jr.; son-in-law, Howard (Slug) Kirsch; great granddaughter, Hannah Morgan Davies; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Ritter Morgan; and a sister, Elsie Farens. Marguerite is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Reed Kirsch, of Lewes, and Joan K. Morgan and husband Woodrow (Woody), of Milford; daughter-in-law, Patricia Young Reed, of Estero, Fla.; eight grandchildren whom she loved dearly; Sharon Purnell (Mike), of Rehoboth Beach, Sheila Sharp (Ronnie), of Milford, Bruce Morgan, of Lincoln, Lisa Davies (Greg), of Frederica, Dr. Gary Morgan (Susan), of Milford, Frank Reed, III (Tina), of Punta Gorda, Fla., Carrie Sigmon (Ronnie), of Roanoke, Va., and Chris Reed, of Milford; 12 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, with visitation after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome, or contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
