SMYRNA - Margaret Knotts Betts, of Smyrna, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, in the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 90. Mrs. Betts was born April 24, 1921, in Burrsville, Md,, the daughter of the late Roland and Lucretia Knotts. She retired after many years as a Sales Clerk for WT Grant in Milford. After she retired, she worked for Wooten's Grocery Store in Frederica. Mrs. Betts loved flowers and sitting in the garden. She loved her collections of items old and new. She cherished her time with her many cats and the family dogs, Duke, Bettie, and Sissy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Rawlins Scotton in 1990, and Merton Betts in 1994. She is survived by her sister, Marie K. Reed of Smyrna; her niece and caregiver of many years, Robin Bruner and her husband Dave of Smyrna; three nephews, Michael R. Reed and his wife Jan of Smyrna, Wayne R. Reed and his wife Barbie of Smyrna, and Dave Reed and his wife Kathy of Middletown; and many great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19904.
