DOVER — A 68-year-old Dover man who allegedly discharged a firearm near Kent County Family Court on Wednesday later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Delaware Capitol police spokesperson Arshon Howard, at 9:14 a.m., the man reportedly shot a weapon from inside his vehicle toward an adult male in the vicinity of the courthouse on Court Street, then fled the scene.
No injuries were reported, and Family Court operations were not affected.
Police later determined the suspect had fled to Maryland, Mr. Howard said. That evening, authorities there found his vehicle near Annapolis, and the Anne Arundel County Police Department initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, while still in his car, the man sustained the fatal wound, police said.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending notification of kin.
