DOVER — A string of city-area shootings continued Sunday night, when a 28-year-old man was wounded in a vehicle that was headed away from White Oak Apartments, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

The injured man was struck in the side of the head and transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover for treatment. Police said Monday morning he was in stable condition.

Since June 3, police have reported at least 21 gunfire incidents in Dover, leaving 20 people injured, including two dead.

Additionally, on Saturday, Delaware State Police responded to a cornfield in the 2000 block of Dyke Branch Road and found a deceased 30-year-old woman with apparent gunshot wounds.

In the incident Sunday, police said, the wounded man was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman. The woman told police someone began firing shots at the vehicle as she drove away from the apartments at 1001 White Oak Road about 10:34 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to call 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
