SMYRNA - Major Daniel Little Burritt, USAF, (Ret),passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. A native of Vermont, Daniel was born in Hinesburg, Vt. on Nov. 15, 1920. He was the son of Roderick and Ila Little Burritt. He graduated from Tri-State College in Angola, Ind. and worked for Pratt and Whitney as an Aeronautical Engineer. He is a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Joining the Army Air Corp. in 1941, he learned to fly in a Stearman biplane aircraft. In WWII, he flew an A-20 Havoc medium bomber in Africa and Italy. He survived being shot down and parachuting onto Monte Casino in Italy on his 37th mission, but returned to complete a total of 68 missions earning the Purple Heart and numerous Air medals. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; and his son M/Sgt. Robert Burritt, USAF. He is survived by three sons, LTC William Burritt, USA, (Ret) and his wife, Sharon, Roderick Burritt and his wife Janice, and David Burritt and his wife Linda; and three daughters, Patricia Moon and her husband Lewis, Theresa Reynolds, and Margaret Gonzon and her husband James plus 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was well known for his warm and friendly disposition and ability to brighten the day of each person he met. His generosity was genuine, without thought, spending years as a volunteer for the Saint Vincent De Paul Society at St. Polycarp's Parish in Smyrna, DE and countless hours as a volunteer at the Delaware Home and Hospital in Smyrna. He was a great family man and along with his wife Ann, they nurtured a sense of cohesiveness among all their children and grandchildren, which, we're sure will be passed on to their great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Faries Funeral Home in Smyrna on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 from 3 to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Polycarp's Catholic Church on Monday October 22, 2012 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Polycarp's Church, 135 Ransom Ln.
