MAGNOLIA - Gadiel Haro, 27, of Magnolia, was arrested for murder and other charges following an investigation that began early Tuesday, Delaware State Police said.
According to spokesperson Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, at approximately 12:26 a.m., troopers responded to the 400 block of Stevenson Drive regarding a physical altercation. Upon their arrival, troopers discovered that Mr. Haro had been involved in a dispute with his girlfriend, a 26-year-old woman from Magnolia, police said.
Police determined that during the dispute, Mr. Haro assaulted his girlfriend while in the presence of a 3-year-old juvenile and 6-year-old juvenile. The children ran from the house and asked for help from their neighbor, Robert Mujica, 42, of Magnolia.
Mr. Mujica responded to Mr. Haro’s home, and Mr. Haro began intentionally choking him, causing him to fall unconscious, police said.
Mr. Mujica was pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers took Mr. Haro into custody without incident.
Mr. Haro was charged with second-degree murder, strangulation, endangering the welfare of a child (two counts), and offensive touching, Mr. Haro was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $1,007,500 cash bond.
